What is Global Leadership Week?

Global Leadership Week is designed to inspire student, educator and organizational leadership and advocacy for global education.  During GLW, many organizations will be hosting most virtual events focused on leadership. The education public can participate in these events free of charge.

Who are the organizers of Global Leadership Week?

Lucy Gray and Steve Hargadon, co-chairs of the Global Education Conference, are the organizers in consultation with the GEC Leadership Team.

When will Global Leadership Week take place?

Global Leadership Week will take place April 24 -28, 2016. Times will vary according to hosts' time zones and the number of events posted.

Use timeanddate.com to do any time conversions.

Where will Global Leadership Week happen?

Most events will take place online. Visit this page to see event listings and times. The Global Leadership Summit will be a face-to-face, in person event.

Who can participate?

What type of activities will happen during Global Leadership Week?

Schools and organizations will be hosting a wide variety of virtual events. Look for Twitter chats, book discussions, webinars, and live streamed discussions. Again, check out this page for directions on how to join events and to see our event calendar.

Are there any deadlines?

There are no firm deadlines. We encourage spontaneous participation. However, Hosts should post their event/activity as soon as possible in order to attract the most interest for their event.

Attendees can select what event(s) they will attend whenever they choose; if an individual host requires pre-registration, then you may want to sign up earlier rather than later for that particular event.

Is there a cost to participate in Global Leadership Week?

No.

Is registration required?

If you are planning on hosting an event, you will need to design your event and post it to our calendar using these directions.

For attendees, it depends on requirements set by individual event hosts.  Browse the calendar of events for specific details.

Registration IS required for the Global Leadership Summit IF you are planning to travel to New York for this face-to-face event. Do not register to watch the Global Leadership Summit online; the livestream will be posted on our Facebook page.

What kind of equipment will I need to participate?

Check the event listings on our event calendar for any specific tools or equipment that is needed. You'll probably need a computer or mobile device; headphones are recommended.

Can my organization host more than one event?

Yes. Organizations are encouraged to host at least one activity or event. If you feel inclined to host additional events, you are more welcome to list those on our calendar. Again, see the host page for specific directions. You need to book each event using the procedure listed.

How do I edit my event on the GLW calendar?

We use a tool called YouCanBookMe so that you can self-schedule your event. When you booked your event, you received an email confirmation from us and YouCanBookMe. Use the links at the bottom of that confirmation to change your date or time,  or to cancel your booking. It is not possible to edit anything else. If you need to make changes to other parts of your event, we recommend that you cancel the booking and re-book.

Do I have to start my event at the top of the hour?

Yes. We have a uniform schedule to keep things simple and easy for participants. You can always indicate any notes about times in the last field of the booking form if you do not want to adhere to this. We cannot change your time on the calendar, however. For example, some hosts have used the optional field in the booking form to indicate that the activity will last only a half hour.

We do not recommend that events take more than an hour. If you need a second hour, book a second event right after your first event.

What if my activity doesn't require real time participation?

We like these kinds of activities! GLW  hosts can offer collaborative opportunities for image sharing, polls, surveys, and other data collection projects that do not require a specific hour of participation. Our suggestion is to book your event as early as possible in the booking form, and indicate in the field at the end of the booking field that participants can participate at any time. Also, make sure to indicate that it is asynchronous activity when you fill out the form as well.

Why isn't my organization listed on the participant page of the GLW website?

It could be one of several reasons.  A) You haven't filled out our form,  B) you haven't filled out form correctly, C) you represent a for profit company that is a not sponsor, or D) we haven't updated this page yet.  Our participant list is only for non-profit organizations and those supporting our work at the Global Education Conference Network.

For profits also do not receive email updates from us, but updates are posted to our forum on a regular basis. For information about how you can join us in our work, contact Steve Hargadon at
steve@hargadon.com.

What follow up activities are scheduled post-GLW?
